Overcome Trauma Somatically

Is Somatic Work right for you?

Have you tried talk therapy but feel progress is plateauing, or that revisiting your stories is triggering? Are you continuously feeling lethargic, no matter how much you sleep? Are your mind and body constantly bracing for danger? Do you feel disconnected from your body? Do you consistently feel afraid for seemingly no reason? Is sleeping difficult because your mind is continuously racing about the past or expectations of the future? Do you struggle with anxiety?

If you resonate with any of those, then your nervous system may be stuck in a state of survival from past trauma. Various circumstances can cause our nervous system to stay in a survival state, primarily due to emotions such as shame or fear. As someone who struggled with most of the above, but have been fortunate enough to overcome most symptoms, I cannot only empathize with the suffering, but I can also speak to the power of Somatic Work.

Nurturing your nervous system through a Somatic practice can help you overcome this suffering by allowing you to embody safety and regulate your being.

About Tyler

Hey there, my name is Tyler Nissen, and I am a somatic practitioner and trauma coach. I am certified in Somatic EMDR, am an SEP in training, and a certified Transformational and Psychedelic Integration Coach. All that said, my greatest teacher has been healing my own trauma. It has taught me the benefits of various approaches, shown me who I no longer am, and how to recenter myself.

My approach is drawn from the influences of Somatic Experiencing, polyvagal theory, Somatic EMDR, psychedelics, shadow work, dream work, identifying/re-wiring beliefs, and meditation; all with the foundation of using the body as a compass.

Everyone’s story is unique, which is why I meet every client with compassion, acceptance, and a holistic, mind-body-spirit paradigm. Whether you are looking to heal old wounds, rediscover your authentic self, or build the foundation for a peaceful future, I am here to simply support, nurture, and facilitate you on your individual path.

My Philosophy

Healing is a dance between feeling the past and creating the new. And in order to feel the past, we must nurture safety in our nervous system to build the capacity to feel what is there without surpassing our present threshold. To feel safe, we must compassionately meet our nervous system where it is at, while nurturing resilience to allow ourselves to regulate, expand our threshold, and complete the initial survival response. This is the process of embodying safety, which allows the nervous system to “do what it needs to do” - directed by its own higher intelligence - while we take a step back and simply support it. This is how we get out of our own way. As we heal, little pockets of what Peter Levine, the creator of Somatic Experiencing, refers to as “goodness” will show up, and it is in these moments that we create the new. Where we follow that impulse for creativity and expand into who we truly are.

Testimonials

“I am so happy I found Tyler in my healing journey. I was experiencing a ton of anxiety and thought I was really tired all the time. Tyler showed me how to get out of freeze and eventually feel what was underneath it all. I had been trying talk therapy for a while and wasn’t really getting anywhere with my symptoms. Tyler taught me how to regulate my nervous system, which allowed me to let go of a bunch of old energy that was causing this stuck and confused feeling. I’m really grateful for Tyler’s support and I will definitely refer him to others in my life.”

“I was in a really dark place after Ayahuasca. I was dissociated and constantly afraid. Tyler helped me ground myself and support me with a nervous-system perspective of what was happening within my body, which helped me to gradually come back to reality. If anyone is dealing with a troubling psychedelic experience and don’t know how to feel normal again, I would definitely work with Tyler”

“I’ve only had a few sessions with Tyler over the past two weeks, and I’ve already seen better results than in the seven years I’ve spent on my healing journey after being addicted to pills and growing up in an abusive household. (I have CPTSD). I reached out to Tyler thinking I had nothing to lose, and I’m extremely glad I trusted him. The results have been remarkable and relatively immediate. Tyler quickly identified the state of my nervous system and guided me through exercises that made most of my symptoms vanish. His deep knowledge of somatic experiencing, combined with his personal experience with trauma, has been invaluable. Just talking to him and receiving his support and understanding has been more than I could have ever asked for. I have no doubt that with continued sessions, I will soon be symptom-free.”
